Los Cabos with kids: 7 tips for a stress-free family vacation

Traveling with kids is all about the details: the right seat in the car, a beach where the waves won’t knock anyone over and snacks within reach. Los Cabos makes it easy once you know where to go.

With kids, the little details make the whole vacation.

The list

  • Reserve car seats when you book
  • Stock the fridge on the way from the airport
  • Choose calm beaches
  • See the fish without getting wet
  • Plan around the midday sun
  • Time whale season right
  • Keep travel days simple

1. Reserve car seats when you book

Infant seats, car seats and boosters are free with your transfer. Add them when you book, along with the kids’ ages, and they will be installed and ready when your driver picks you up.

2. Stock the fridge on the way from the airport

Add a 30-minute or one-hour grocery stop to your arrival and pick up milk, snacks, fruit and water before you even get to the hotel. It saves you a second trip after a long travel day.

3. Choose calm beaches

Not every beach in Los Cabos is safe for swimming. For families, Chileno Bay is a favorite: calm water, restrooms and showers, but no food stands, so bring a cooler. Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas is calm and shallow, with lifeguards during peak season and plenty of water sports for older kids.

4. See the fish without getting wet

A glass-bottom boat ride from Medano Beach to the Arch lets little ones see tropical fish, sea lions and Lovers Beach without swimming a single stroke.

5. Plan around the midday sun

The Baja sun is stronger than it feels. Do the beach in the morning, take a pool or nap break after lunch and head out again late in the afternoon. Hats, rash guards and reef-safe sunscreen are must-haves.

6. Time whale season right

If your kids are old enough for a boat tour, visit between mid-December and mid-April. Spotting a humpback with its calf is the kind of thing they will remember forever. Larger, steadier boats are best for younger kids.

7. Keep travel days simple

After a flight, the last thing anyone wants is a crowded shuttle that stops at five hotels. A private transfer takes you straight to yours, with room for strollers and luggage. Tell us how many bags you are bringing and we will send the right vehicle.
